Ok, here is my much delayed 4th and final FB Yoga Challenge update (if you want to learn more, like my Root & Sky page on Facebook): This final week has been hectic! I have to admit, I did not find time to squeeze in a traditional Yoga practice, but I did do something else. Drawing from the definition of Yoga as 'yoke' or 'union', I see a Yoga practice as a state of awareness in life where we manage through daily lifestyle choices to bring balance into our lives, thereby uniting body, mind, and spirit. This last week, it was more important for me to cook a nutritious dinner than it was to spend that time practicing inversions like I did week 1. A good meal was what my body-mind-spirit needed to feel nurtured and complete. Since week one, I have also been sticking to a nightly walk with my dog Lulu, and it has become the highlight of my day. It is a walking meditation, an exercise in staying in the present moment, it gives me a chance to find something new and wonderful along a familiar path everyday, and I'm spending time with my much loved Lulu. I have gained a clearer mind, I feel every cell of my body energized and content afterwards, my spirit feels light and curious, and best of all I WANT to keep coming back for more. I think this feeling of 'rightness' is the union Yoga speaks of, and while I'm not giving up on my asana practice, I am grateful for all of the Yoga off the mat as well.
