I'm happy to announce two workshops on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at Peace Yoga in Bel Air. We will spend the morning going over the basics of Ayurveda and how it relates to your health and well being, and then reconvene after lunch to talk about Ayurvedic Skincare. You can come to one or both; registration is on the Peace Yoga website (www.peaceyogabelair.com) or in person at the studio. Hopefully I'll see you there! More in depth descriptions of the workshops follow:
Introduction to Ayurveda 10am-12pm
Ayurveda is an ancient healing system from India that is complementary to Yoga. During this workshop you will learn more about your unique doshic balance and simple ways to incorporate Ayurvedic routines into your daily life to achieve better body awareness and enhance your sense of well-being. We will also cover Ayurvedic approaches to common Autumn ailments and simple yoga postures to balance the doshas. You will leave with a better understanding of the basics of Ayurveda and a new way of viewing your body and your environment.
Ayurvedic Skin Care 1pm-3pm
The skin is our largest organ, and as the protective layer between our internal and external environments it can take a lot of abuse. This workshop will introduce ways to nourish and nurture the skin from an Ayurvedic perspective. We will discuss the Ayurvedic doshas in relation to the skin and you will have the opportunity to determine your doshic skin type using an interactive quiz and observation. Details on the biology of skin will be provided along with why natural skin care is so important to the body’s overall health. We will go over healthy ingredient choices that balance the doshas as well as the major detrimental ingredients to avoid. Finally we will talk about the application of those healthy ingredients and how to start an abhyanga, or self-massage, practice at home.
