My nurturing Mother's Day routine is super simple, AND a great way to give back to mom. It will focus on pampering the feet, which take quite the beating in daily life. Have your mom start with clean feet and have a soaking basin full of warm water available with plenty of soft towels within reach. The following recipe is an easy foot scrub you can make from (mostly) common household ingredients. Foot exfoliation is different than face scrubs - the feet can handle the coarseness of salt and sugar whereas the face is too delicate. Mix the following ingredients together into a thick paste:
1/4 cup sea salt
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup cold pressed olive oil
5-10 drops of your mom's favorite essential oil (lavender is a favorite and very calming, and citrus oils will be uplifting)
Massage the foot scrub GENTLY into mom's feet over the warm water - now it's time for the soak! You can add a couple drops of your favorite essential oil in this water as well, and the salt from the scrub will dissolve in the water.
After a 10 minute soak dry mom's feet with a towel, set the water aside, and moisturize (of course I'm partial to Liquid Ember balms; the Lemon, Peppermint, Myrrh is especially nice for feet, but you can use any natural moisturizer you like). Moisturizing the feet can become a wonderful foot massage, so take your time rubbing balm or lotion into the entire foot. There is a marma point called Pada Madhya at the center of the sole of the foot, one third of the distance from the toes to the heels between the 2nd and 3rd toes. Massaging and holding this marma point will calm the mind, reduce insomnia and stress, AND it is very grounding. All great gifts to give mom for Mother's Day, if you ask me!
